Le Potazzine

Montalcino - Tuscany | Gigliola Gianetti

ORGANIC

After working with Francesco Biondi Santi in the 1980s, Gigliola Giannetti established Le Potazzine in Montalcino, planting vineyards at 530m altitude—once overlooked but now envied for their cool microclimate and long ripening periods. Harvest occurs up to three weeks later than lower-altitude sites, ensuring wines with vibrant acidity and freshness.

Gigliola, alongside her daughters Viola and Sofia, employs native fermentations, 45-day macerations, and aging in large Slavonian casks. Their wines exceed the minimum aging requirements—IGT could be Rosso di Montalcino, Rosso could be Brunello, and Brunello could be Riserva—yet remain pure and unfiltered, with only minimal sulfur additions. The estate follows certified organic practices.

Le Potazzine is now one of Montalcino’s elite producers, praised for its refined, terroir-driven Brunellos. As Antonio Galloni states, their wines embody “the epitome of translucence and finesse in Montalcino Sangiovese.”

2021 LE POTAZZINE TOSCANA IGT - LIMITED

A nose immediately developing, characterised by intense notes of red berries and light underbrush. On the palate the sensation is immediate : a rich and intense body that goes to perfectly intertwine with grace and elegance of a present tannin but very soft and velvety. A Rosso di Montalcino that whispers longevity.

2018 LE POTAZZINE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO - LIMITED

An intense fruity nose that here at Le Potazzine we love to describe as “fancy”. In the mouth is very varietal, with notes of black-fruits supported by a well-balanced acidity, which enhances the freshness and the drinkability of this Brunello, as well as promising a very long shelf-life in the bottle.

2021 LE POTAZZINE ROSSO DI MONTALCINO - LIMITED

model of purity, the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino opens slowly, at first showing red plum and dusty rose nuances while coaxing brings violet florals, cedar and crushed stone to the front. This excites the palate with its energetic mix of juicy wild berries and contrasting saline mineral tones, further enhanced by brisk acidity. A citrus and cranberry tension is left to linger, pinching at the cheeks while forcing the mouth to water for more, as a gentle coating of fine tannins is slowly revealed. What a beauty, but do make sure to give this a good decant or cellar over the next five to eight years.
