Castell’in Villa

Castelnuovo Berardenga - Tuscany | Coralia Pignatelli

ORGANIC

Castell’in Villa is one of the most significant and consistent estates in Chianti Classico. Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Le- onessa and her husband found the property in 1967 and purchased it the following year. Initially, Princess Coralia and her husband thought they would make wine for fun. At the time, there was just one hectare under vine, but planting began in ear- nest in 1968 following suggestions from the Princess’ Greek Aristocrat Father and the Chianti Classico Consorzio, which in- cluded the estate’s white grapes, ended up being the flagship for Castell’in Villa.

Now days, the estate covers an area of 298 hectares of which 54 hectares are vineyards, 32 hectares are olive groves. And the remainder is devoted to crops and woodlands. The vineyards are managed with absolute respect, incorporating organic prac- tices and championing the various micro climates of their extensive plantings. The winemaking is traditional, using large for- mat oak and gimmick free, minimal intervention vinification. And the resulting wines are timeless expressions of Chianti Classi- co and more specifically the wines of the southerly situated, Castelnuovo Berardenga.

100% Sangiovese from vineyards in Castelnuovo Berardenga. Traditionally made, aged in cask. One of the most age worthy wines in Italy. Aging potential: 20-40 years. Quite simply one of the finest estates in Tuscany’ – Antonio Galloni
