Marco Lubiana

Derwent Valley, Tasmania

BIO-DYNAMIC - SUSTAINABLE - VEGAN

The Lubiana family has been making wine since the late 1800s, originally in Istria (now Croatia). After WWII, Andrea Lubiana moved from Northern Italy to South Australia, where his son Mario continued the winemaking tradition. Steve Lubiana later relocated to Tasmania in 1990 to focus on cool-climate wines. I pursued a Bachelor of Oenology & Viticulture at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 2018. While working at East End Cellars, I refined my palate for fine French and Italian wines. My passion for Burgundy led me to an internship in Côte d’Or for the 2019 vintage.

Growing up in a vineyard, I’ve embraced biodynamic viticulture, believing 90% of wine quality comes from the vineyard. My approach is minimal intervention—gravity over pumps, slow maturation in a cool cellar, and minimal sulfur use. I select the finest corks and bottles to ensure my wines age beautifully in your cellar.

2023 MARCO LUBIANA CHARDONNAY

The 2023 Marco Lubiana Chardonnay is a beautifully expressive cool-climate wine that showcases elegance and precision. Aromas of ripe citrus, white peach, and nectarine intertwine with delicate floral notes and subtle hints of toasted hazelnut. On the palate, vibrant acidity balances the rich texture, revealing layers of lemon curd, green apple, and a touch of flinty minerality. A gentle oak influence adds depth without overpowering the fruit, leading to a long, refined finish. This Chardonnay is a testament to thoughtful winemaking and Tasmania’s exceptional terroir.

2023 MARCO LUBIANA ONE TERROIR PINOT NOIR

The 2023 One Terroir Pinot Noir is from one parcel of pinot off gravelly clay higher up on the estate hill, it is more exposed to westernly weather conditions and produces a low crop with great phenolic ripeness especially in 2022 when it was a cooler, more drawn out season. I use 100% whole bunch on this cuvee as it has good phenolic ripeness in the stems and typically ferment it for 2 weeks with foot stomping to break the cap up (no sulfur during fermentation).
